Consulting servicesWe bring our organizational development, facilitation and training skills to help organizations -- businesses, governmental agencies and non-profits -- improve their economic. environmental and social performance. Our background in teamwork and collaborative work systems are particularly relevant to this line of work. Here is a sampling of the type of work we do. Please see our Annual Reports under Newsletters & Articles for more specific information.

Sustainability plans andimplementation strategy -- We have invented a systematic method for creating sustainability plans and have associated tools (SPaRK) to support that work. The Step by Step Guide to Sustainability Planning was published in 2008. We've helped a wide variety of organizations develop sustainability plans including large non-profits, municipalities, and corporations. Assemble the right people and we can get you to a first or second generation sustainability plan in just a few days (over a couple months).

STAR (Sustainability Team Action Review)—Want a quick and easy way to do a check up on your sustainability plan and pull together a sustainability report? Let us help you pull together your data and facilitate a meeting with your Sustainability Steering Committee to quickly gather lessons learned and reinvigorate your plans for the coming year. Sustainability Assessments -- We have conducted sustainability assessments for both government and businesses. These often include mapping sustainability-related impacts and doing a greenhouse gas inventory. In conjunction with our able colleagues, our assessments may also include facilities assessments, chemical inventories, and waste audits. SCORE, our proprietary assessment of sustainable business practices, was created in collaboration with the International Sustainable Development Foundation and the Zero Waste Alliance and has a companion book,The Business Guide to Sustainability (Earthscan, 2006, 2009). It includes assessments for common organizational functions (top management, facilities, purchasing, marketing, HR, etc.) and major sectors (manufacturing, government, services.) We've also worked with a number of trade associations to create sector-specific SCORE assessments for their industry (including water and waste water utilities, travel, construction).

New! The Business Model Challenge—Want a way to engage your executives in an exploration of the future? Ask us to facilitate this stimulating event that reveals how your business model may need to change in the future to adapt to a changing world. Download flier.

Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration and Facilitation-- To achieve sustainability, you often have to get stakeholders into a room together to come to consensus on a new direction, industry standards, or metrics. This is tricky work because each organization brings its own self-interests and positions. We have successfully guided a number of these types of projects, including the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (run by GreenBlue), the Unified Green Cleaning Alliance (Zero Waste Alliance) , Green Spa Network (SCORE sector assessment) and others.
